Collection: Dual Zone Wine Fridges
A dual zone wine fridge lets you store red and white wine at their correct temperatures simultaneously — in one unit, under one worktop, without compromise. If you regularly drink both styles, or share a home with people whose tastes differ from yours, a dual zone model is one of the most practical upgrades you can make to how you store and serve wine.
How dual zone wine fridges work
Dual zone fridges use a single compressor divided into two independently controlled temperature chambers. The two zones are typically separated by an insulated partition, with separate thermostats for each. This means you can set the upper zone to 14–16°C for reds and the lower zone to 8–10°C for whites and keep them there consistently — day in, day out — without manually adjusting anything before you open a bottle.
The lower zone is always cooler in compressor-based models because cold air sinks. This is why whites, rosés, and sparkling wines generally sit below, and reds above. Some models reverse this layout, so always check the spec if you have a preference.
What temperature should each zone be set to?
As a starting point: white wines at 8–12°C, rosé and lighter reds at 10–13°C, full-bodied reds at 14–18°C, and Champagne or sparkling at 5–8°C. Serving temperature differs from storage temperature — wines stored long-term are typically kept slightly cooler (around 12–14°C across both zones) and brought up or down before serving. Most dual zone fridges give you a range of roughly 5–22°C to work with.
Dual zone vs single zone — which do you need?
If you predominantly drink one style of wine, a single zone fridge is simpler and often cheaper. Dual zone makes sense when you regularly have both open reds and chilled whites, when you entertain and want both types ready at the right temperature, or when you're building a collection across different varietals. The price premium for dual zone is modest — typically £50–£150 more than a comparable single zone unit.
Sizes and installation types
Dual zone fridges are available as undercounter (30cm and 60cm wide), freestanding, and integrated models. The most popular size in the UK is the 60cm undercounter dual zone — it holds 38–55 bottles and fits a standard kitchen cabinet opening. Freestanding dual zone models can go much larger, up to 160+ bottles for serious collectors.
Who should buy a dual zone wine fridge?
They're ideal for households that drink mixed styles regularly, anyone who entertains, and collectors who want to keep longer-term storage and ready-to-drink bottles in different conditions. All dual zone models on CoolDrop come with free UK mainland delivery and a minimum 2-year warranty.
